What is a Cookie?
Cookies are strings of text sent by a web server (i.e. the website) to the user’s internet browser, which automatically stores them on the user’s computer and sends them back to the server at any occurrence or any future access to the website.
Each cookie contains different data, such as the name of the server that sent it, an identification number, etc.
Cookies can be stored in the system for the length of a user’s session ( that is, until the browser used to surf the web is closed) or for longer periods, and they can contain a unique identification code.
Almost all web browsers are set to accept cookies automatically by default, nevertheless every browser allows you to limit or delete cookies (for further information see the section ‘How to disable or delete cookies’). Remember, however, that disabling or deleting cookies may compromise optimal use of certain areas of the website.
Type of Cookie used by Wimonitor
The Wimonitor website does not use cookies, nor any other tool that stores information on the user’s device (such as the browser’s local storage): there are no technical, analytics, profiling or third-party cookies. The pages do not embed content from other websites (videos, maps, social network buttons) that could set third-party cookies; links to Wimonitor’s social profiles are plain links, and any cookies set by the destination websites are governed by their own policies. For this reason no consent banner is shown.
Contact form (Web3Forms)
The pages of the website that include the contact form rely on the Web3Forms service to forward messages by e-mail. The form does not set any cookie or other tracking tool on the user’s device, and no Web3Forms script is loaded while browsing: the service is involved only when the user voluntarily submits the form.
On submission, the data entered by the user (name, e-mail address, phone number if provided, message text) is transmitted to Web3Forms, together with the technical data inevitably associated with a web request (such as IP address and browser type). Regarding this processing:
- Purpose and legal basis: the data is used solely to reply to the user’s request; processing is necessary to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) or for the controller’s legitimate interest in replying to the communications received (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Provision of data: providing data is optional, but the fields marked as mandatory are required in order to handle the request.
- Role of Web3Forms: the service is operated by Web3Creative (India), which acts as data processor pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR under its data processing agreement (https://web3forms.com/dpa). Web3Creative receives, validates, stores and forwards messages to the controller’s mailbox, using the following sub-processors: Amazon Web Services, Inc. (hosting, storage and e-mail delivery), Cloudflare, Inc. (content delivery network and edge security), Hetzner Online GmbH (infrastructure in the European Union), CleanTalk Inc. and Automattic Inc. – Akismet (spam filtering, receiving the sender’s IP address and e-mail address). Web3Forms privacy policy: https://web3forms.com/privacy.
- Transfers outside the EU: data is transferred to India, a country for which no European Commission adequacy decision exists; the transfer is based on the standard contractual clauses approved by Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/914, incorporated into the Web3Forms data processing agreement (Art. 46 GDPR). Data may also be processed in the United States by the sub-processors listed above, on the basis of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for providers adhering to it, or of standard contractual clauses.
- Retention: messages received are kept by the controller for as long as needed to handle the request and any resulting relationship, and in any case no longer than 24 months from the last contact, unless required by law. On Web3Forms systems, submission data is kept for a maximum of three years, after which it is automatically deleted.
- Data subject rights: the user may at any time exercise the rights under Articles 15-22 GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection) by writing to the controller at the contact details given in the privacy policy, and may lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (www.garanteprivacy.it).
HOW TO DISABLE, ACTIVATE OR DELETE COOKIES
Almost all web browsers are set to automatically accept cookies, but they can be limited or blocked through the browser settings. If you prefer websites to not store any cookies on your computer, change the browser settings so that it sends you a notification before the storing of any cookie. Alternatively, you may set the browser so to reject all cookies or only third-party cookies. You can also delete all cookies already present in the system.
It’s important to note that the settings have to be adjusted separately in every browser and computer used.
Blocking cookies won’t prevent the visualization of advertising, the just won’t be personalized according to your interests anymore and the same ones will show up more frequently
The procedure for adjusting the settings is different in every browser.
